Riley Monahan

Riley Monahan is a dedicated psychotherapist and Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) based in Arizona. He completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work at Arizona State University. Professionally, Riley splits his time between his role at Born Counseling & Consulting and his position as the Clinical Director at a Phoenix-based nonprofit specializing in substance abuse treatment.

Riley works with a wide range of clients, including individuals and couples, engaging with those at various stages of readiness for self-discovery and growth, as well as those actively working through personal challenges.

He holds specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, is a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP), and has completed Level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Riley integrates a variety of therapeutic modalities, including cognitive therapy and psychodynamic techniques, with a focus on deepening clients’ understanding of the brain-behavior relationship. He emphasizes the importance of uncovering thought patterns and the emotional influences that drive behavior. A key aspect of his practice is helping individuals gain insights into how their past experiences shape their mental health, guiding them towards empowerment and personal growth.

Riley’s therapeutic approach is direct yet intuitive, tailoring each session to meet the unique needs and life stories of his clients. He values authenticity in his counseling and strives to remain relatable, with the goal of helping clients process their feelings to live more fulfilling lives.

Outside of his professional life, Riley is committed to fostering connection, self-care, and family. He balances his time with his family through exercise, playing golf, and continuous learning. Riley lives in Phoenix with his wife, Tatum, and their two young daughters, Lennon and Nola, enjoying a life that blends both personal and professional fulfillment.
